Hayley had her pre-school year-end concert this week. The kids sang well and really LOUD! I can't believe next year Logan will be up on stage. Hayley continues to be very outgoing and makes friends easily (she's in the middle of her two best friends in the picture below).
Although I don't usually write very much, I promised myself I'd summarize the day Hayley had her preschool concert. It seems to epitomize our life these days and I'd like my future self to remember what life was like when the kids were all little.
8:30 - start a load of laundry - very motivated to get stuff done! Yay!
8:30 - 9 - I get kids dressed / lunch for Evan, Mike gets breakfast ready.
9:00 - 11:30 - Drive Evan to kindergarten and go to his gym after dropping him off at class - today is field day and I am one of the 40 or so volunteers (love this district, great parent involvement, although sometimes a bit over the top!) I grabbed the water balloon stand, which was a good choice considering it reached 88 degrees that day. Manage to keep semi-order during field day, no child cries, only a few children go crazy and try to pop all of the balloons. Consider it a success. Arrange a playdate for next week with Evan's friend's mom.
12 - 1- Drive home and grab Hayley for a local open swim in the afternoon, it's free between 12-1 on Thursdays. She loves swimming and it was nice to have an hour just with her and I. She does great, happy and doesn't cry or almost throw a fit until we are leaving and she wants a toy. I do not get toy and she only semi-pouts, walks out of the place without screaming. Definately a win!
1:30 - 3 - Hayley, Logan, Mike and I relax, we eat lunch, and I play Skylanders with Logan on the floor. Only check work email one time - yay! I remember to switch over laundry into dryer - double yay! Find out that I just washed my cell phone and now it's completely dead. Ugh!
3 - Shake off cell phone loss and decide it would be a good idea to put the little two in the stroller and walk to Evan's school for pickup, since it's only a mile away (I've always said 'wouldn't it be fun to walk home from school' so thought we should try it since only a few weeks left.) Mike re-inflated the stroller wheels and we were on our way. Hayley and Logan each brought a guinea pig (of course!) and we brought left over celery & dip from lunch for the kids and the guineas to snack on.
3:30 - Hit a bump and ranch dip for celery spills everywhere, including on guinea pigs. I attempt to wipe it off with leaves from a nearby tree.
3:55 - made it to school just as the bell rang and Hayley insists on leaving stroller, she then loses her shoe when I accidentally run her over with the stroller. Thankfully she doesn't cry. I stand in the middle of the hallway, children streaming around us, putting her shoe back on with a stroller covered in ranch dip, a 2 year old, and 2 guinea pigs. Thankfully, Evan's teacher sees us and Evan doesn't get on the bus. Evan is excited we are there with the guinea pigs.
4 - 4:45 - We steer to the back and go to the playground (promised the littles) for about 45 minutes. We climb, do slides, ect... Logan also tells me his diaper hurts, screaming, so I take it off of him and throw it in the trash. I tell him not to pee his pants and he says 'ok' (hmmmm... a good start to potty training....).
4:45 - realized I was supposed to go reserve seats for Hayley's concert and we have to eat before Evan's baseball game at 6 and I'm still a mile away from home and kids are dirty. Only slightly panic, get littles back in stroller with lure of guinea pigs.
4:46 - It begins to pour. Luckily stroller has partial canopy. Pros: Guinea pigs and stroller now semi-clean of ranch dip, Logan's shorts will be wet regardless, it was really hot anyways. We run home.
5:15 - Somehow we are all in car, Evan is baseball gear and gear in truck and Hayley in concert clothes. Head to pre-school to get seats.
5:15 - 5:30 - Preschool director is overwhelmed, no one is there to help her. She also says I can't reserve seats. She is new this year and clueless that it will be standing room only. I help her set up in exchange for reserving 4 seats in the front.
5:30 - We are supposed to meet Nana and Papa at baseball field at 6pm but it is pouring down rain. I can't see if game is cancelled as my phone is dead and Mike can't find his (later, it was discovered it was in my purse).
5:30 - 6pm - skipping the part where it was discovered Mike's cell phone was in my purse all along. Finally find it, realize game is canceled, relay message to parents re: what time concert starts.
6 - 6:40 - eat at IHop. Kids do well. Waiter walks out on IHop staff, causes a slight delay in our order, no worries, we are only 2 miles away.
6:40 - 7pm - drive to pre-school - thunderstorm has knocked out all of the traffic lights and suddenly 2 miles is taking 20 minutes. We are supposed to be there at 6:45... slightly panicking.... Ponder why I'm always late. Realize grandparents are always early. Ponder if I was adopted.
7pm - 8pm - Meet up with nana and papa and enjoy the concert. Hayley does great. Arrange playdate for Hayley same day as playdate for Evan so can maximize time off of work.
8:30 - we go get ice cream to celebrate. (I don't have any, very proud of myself, have lost 20 pounds since January!) head home!
10pm - no power still, probably a good thing - go to bed!
